My Top Five Reads of February

This month has been a little crazy and I bit off more than I could chew with my monthly TBR. I didn’t get to read all my picks up I think 22 books is a good effort. I read so many great books, but these five were my favorites of the month! Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight   I’ve been wanting to read this book for a long time and I’m so glad I finally did!! This book was DARKKKK, but I was so into it and I ventured into a level of kink that I have never before. IT WAS AMAZING. This book featured such an amazing badass female…

Reads That Took Me On Vacation

Due to the pandemic, there has been a limit on traveling and adventure. I have been wanting to get out of California and explore the world for so long and COVID has ruined all of my plans. Since I can’t travel, I read instead. Here are some of the books that took me on a wonderful mental vacation.  Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibanez  Summary:  Ximena’s parents were killed when she was very young by the Llacsan armies. She demands vengeance for her family’s murder so she agrees to become the decoy for the Condesa, the leader of the Illustrians. When the leader of the Llacsan demands the Condesa as…

    Red Queen Review

Summary Alice and Hatcher have ventured out from Old City and are on the path to happily ever after, or so they thought. When they get separated in the woods, Alice will learn how to save herself and those that she loves.  My Thoughts  This sequel was such an interesting twist to even the first book. I honestly thought that this book wasn’t going to have the same zip as the first because the first was just so outrageous, but I was wrong. This book was different from  Alice because it took that darkness and that drama and went into more depth with the main characters.  The setting of this…

    Vengeful Review

Summary Marcella Riggins has been done wrong. She is a smart, savvy and gorgeous woman married to one of the most powerful mob bosses in Merit City. She was the perfect wife, but when her husband betrays her, she will become just a little vengeful….  My Thoughts  OMG! THIS BOOK WAS KILLER LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY. I enjoyed this book so much better than the first for one reason and one reason only, Marcella Riggins….  Marcella Riggins was an instant love character for me from the moment she started talking. Yes, she is bloodthirsty, evil, manipulative, conniving, and vengeful, but this girl has been through hell and back and she didn’t…

    How to Pronounce Knife Review

Summary In this collection of short stories, different characters share their experiences of struggling to find their bearings in an unfamiliar place. This author portrays the priorities of life through these many different characters’ raw and very real storylines. My Thoughts  So I’m not the biggest fan of short story collections because I always need more time in book worlds and characters. However, I read the title and the synopsis of this book and I just had to read it. As an ESL teacher, it hit home for me and I really needed to see where this author was going with it. I am so happy I read it although…

    Queen of Hearts Series Review

Summary Dinah is the crown princess of Wonderland and is destined to be the future Queen of Hearts. All she wants to earn the love of people and fill the shoes of her long dead mother. However, a shocking secret from her father’s past will threaten her future throne and her life forever.  My Thoughts  So as a lover of Alice and Wonderland, I had high hopes for this retelling and it really did me wrong. I was honestly shocked on the way this read turned out and I was sort of disappointed with what occurred.  In comparison to this amazingly blood thirsty, ruthlessness and, brutality of this book world,…

    In Peace Lies Havoc Review

Summary Dove Hendry has had a very dark life and her only salvation is through dance. One day she was kidnapped and recruited into the Midnight Mayhem. A dark circus like dance trope where the Brothers of Kiznitch are the main attraction. When she joins their crew, her dark past starts to come back to her and her life is much different than she remembered.  My Thoughts  HOLY HOTNESS! This book was a steamy, sexy, and eccentric read that I was never expecting. I loved this amazing whirlwind of a book for so many amazing reasons and I am so sad that it is over. This standalone should have been…

Deal with the Elf King Review

Summary Luella just wants to be left alone in her shop to heal the gracious people of her city. However, when she is named the Human Queen to the Elf King, destined to be essentially like a sacrifice for the good of her world and the good of his, her life turns upside down. My Thoughts  Okay, so I’ve seen this book literally EVERYWHERE and I was feeling the FOMO so I decided to finally get it from Kindle Unlimited. It sat in my bookshelf for months, but I bit the bullet and finally read it. So, I’m sorry to say that it does not meet up to the hype…

    Den of Vipers Review

Summary Roxanne is a girl that won’t take anyone’s sh*t. She runs her own dive bar and she knows how to take care of herself until she meets the Vipers. They are one set of men that she can’t fight, so if she can’t fight them, she might as well join them.  My Thoughts  DAMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNN….this book was STEAMY OMG! I flooded my basement on multiple occasions and it was a new level of kink that I’ve never encountered. I mean it took me aback for a minute, but once I was in it, I got so into it!  I’ve seen so many people reading this book and since I love…

    Some of My Favorite Memoirs

Memoirs are such a great way to see how someone else lives. They give us a picture of not only their lives, but the cultures and histories around them. Here is a list of some of my favorite memoirs! Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson  Summary:  In the sequel to Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, Jenny goes on to talk about her insanely hilarious life and finding happiness while she struggles with mental illness.  THIS BOOK WAS HILARIOUS. I listened to the audiobook and I was just a happy and active listener to her amazing story. Her memoir was bits and pieces of her very…
