Deal with the Elf King Review

Summary

Luella just wants to be left alone in her shop to heal the gracious people of her city. However, when she is named the Human Queen to the Elf King, destined to be essentially like a sacrifice for the good of her world and the good of his, her life turns upside down.

My Thoughts

Okay, so I’ve seen this book literally EVERYWHERE and I was feeling the FOMO so I decided to finally get it from Kindle Unlimited. It sat in my bookshelf for months, but I bit the bullet and finally read it. So, I’m sorry to say that it does not meet up to the hype and I was sort of disappointed. Everyone just raved for this book, but I unfortunately didn’t see it.

There was one thing I JUST LOVED about this book, THE BOOK WORLD. OMG it was just so so soooo good. I thought the idea was fabulous, unique and just completely fascinating in every way. Even though this book has a lot of Beauty of the Beast and Hades and Persephone vibes, the book world added such a beautiful twist that I just was completely captivated by. The magic of this world was amazing and if I was the Human Queen, I would be happy. Her natural powers are so cool to me because I have such a black thumb. hahaha !

I also really liked the side characters! Hook, Rinni, Harrow, and Willow stole the show for me! I found myself wondering about their stories and backgrounds. I wanted to know more about them than the actual main characters. I felt as though Harrow would have made a better main character than Eldas. I was more attracted to him than Eldas, I’m sorry to say.

However, the main characters were SOOOOO MEH! Omg they were just so boring in every way. I didn’t feel any connection with them at all and I really could care less about them. Luella was a well developed character and she was very well written, but she just fell flat. Also, there were times that she could be extremely whiny that I found so irritating and other times that she could be so snotty and above everyone. She frankly just rubbed me the wrong way.

Eldas was another character I wasn’t a fan of and I just didn’t understand where the author was going with him. He was another boring main character and unfortunately did the beast so very wrong. I think the beast would eat him for dinner because of how weak his character was. He tried to be the ideal enemy to lovers male specimens, but it didn’t feel genuine and DIDN’T work for me.

The relationship between Eldas and Luella were just such a boring couple and I just didn’t see them as good together. Yes, their sex scenes were steamy, but their normal and public interactions seemed almost robotic. I found more chemistry between her and Harrow than her and Eldas. I was hoping that was going to happen, but alas I was disappointed.

Overall, I loved the book world, but not the characters. I am glad that this was a standalone because I would love to find out more about this amazing world, but leave these characters behind.
