Book Review

Defy the Night

In the Kingdom of Kandala, citizens are suffering from a sickness that has no cure. Their only solution is moonflower petals and those are in short supply for the poor.

The rich sector survives, but the Wilds are suffering.

Tessa Cade steals to help those in need and Prince Corrick hangs people like her.

When they collide, it will cause the kingdom to turn into a direction they never thought possible…. Working together.

My Thoughts

So I went into this book COMPLETELY BLIND

I had no idea what it was about, I just saw the cover and knew that I just had to have it. I mean…. If you have read my reviews before, you know this is a common occurrence, but ISN’T THIS COVER FREAKING GORGEOUS?

So I just had to have it and it has been sitting in my kindle since release day… Recently, I accidently clicked on it while I was trying to find another book and I just started to read. The beginning grabbed me by the eyeballs and didn’t let me go until I had to go to sleep… It was 1 am, but I finished it the next day.

I am obsessed with Tessa.

Tessa has always been a great name for a character for me.. I mean Tessa from the Infernal Devices series was my absolute favorite. This Tessa reminded me so much of her. She may not have started as a take charge and strong character as I usually fall for, but she had a strong heart and I just fell in love with her and her subtle fierceness. She is a badass in a quiet way and I very much appreciated it.

Prince Corrick was also such BAE!

Like Tessa, his character kind of grew on you throughout the story and I just became so obsessed over time. His dialogue made me want to fan myself on many MANY occasions and it was such relief from this harsh and devastating plot.

Though I really enjoyed the characters and the idea of the plot… the twist was slightly predictable in my opinion and the tension between the rich and poor sectors was kind of predictable too. However, the shady politics was absolutely CRAZY and I can’t wait to learn more about the sickness and what will happen with it next.

Overall, this read was gripping, entertaining, and very swoony in all the positive ways. I can’t wait for more from Tessa and Cory!
