In a place where magic is illegal, a group of eight who have been caught using magic are tasked by the kingdom that hates them to go on a mission to protect it. However, they might discover something about their kingdom that will change their lives forever.
Thank goodness for Book Outlet because I would have never discovered this special fantasy that is also a standalone. I mean I haven’t been able to find a standalone fantasy that hasn’t made me want more. This book was very well done in the fact that it provide a full and well developed book world and had characters that just made you fall in love.
If you are looking for a fantasy that is a quick and satisfying read, this is definitely the book for you! I loved the book world that this author provided so much and I just adored everything about it. The magic system of this fantasy world is just so cool. The power of empath instead of being embraced is feared and outlaw. The wielders of this power are shunned and forced to work in mines and are ordered to never use their power. They are basically persecuted for who they are, doesn’t that sounds so familiar….?
The author was also very detailed with the magic system and the dynamics of the book world, but she did it in a way that was never boring. The history of the book world was also so awesome. It really threw me for a loop and I enjoyed every minute of it, especially the parts where very interesting surprised occurred! This fantasy is a perfect ride with a cast of outlaw characters embarking on a journey into the unknown and I was so here for it. The journey and its character reminded me a lot of The Goonies and I was so here for it. I mean dark underground cave, weird creatures around every corner, and a tale revealed from only traveling through the journey. I just loved this story.
Although I really enjoyed the book world, the storyline, and the magic, I just wasn’t as in love with the characters. I mean they were okay, but I wasn’t in love of them. There were just kind of blah. The romance also was kind of blah. But I didn’t care because this book world was worth it!
