Empire of Storms Review

Summary

In the fifth book of the Throne of Glass series, Aelin has her court and has finally made it to her kingdom of Terrasen. However, now she has to worry if her kingdom will accept her as their queen and with war looming, will she be able to gather enough allies to defeat her enemies?

My Thoughts

Honestly, this series just keeps getting better and better with each book! I continue to love this series with each installment because the author continues to add more characters with very unique stories and more twists and turns that shock and rip your heart out at the same time.

There are just so many amazing characters that I don’t even know where to start! I of course continue to have my grand love affair with Aelin. She just cracks me up, especially when she is scaring men and Fae warriors alike. She is also just extremely intelligent. Her plans are just always so unpredictable and my jaw is always on the floor when they are revealed. Her and Rowan’s relationship was as beautiful as always, but it wasn’t the main focus of the book which I really appreciated because that could get old really quick.

I also really appreciated how the author switched perspectives between characters so often. This can sometimes be confusing in some books, but I think it was extremely necessary because there are so many characters and so many storylines going on at the same time. However, they all seem to blend well together when the book ends.

I loved loved loved loved Elide and Lorcan’s storyline. It was extremely unexpected and I really enjoyed seeing more of Elide and a different side to Lorcan. Fenrys and Gaverial also played a bigger part in this installment and I really enjoyed their dialogue and addition to the storyline. Aedion and Lysandra were probably my second favorite couple in this installment because they both have a darkness that they can see in each other. They fit so well together and I’m desperate for more, especially after the end reveal!

Manon was also such a strong character in this book and finally comes into her own. However, I was a little disappointed with her encounters with Dorian. I wish there had been a little more build up in their interactions and more dialogue between them.

Overall, such an amazing addition to the series and I can’t wait for the last installment because that ending was gut wrenching!
