Gemina Review

Summary:

In another space station, on the other side of the galaxy, Hanna has moved to the Jump Station Heimdall and she is not happy about it. However, she had no idea that she was going to face a bigger danger than damage to her social life….

My Thoughts:

I’m sorry, but what the f**k just happened?!!? Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman I feel like it was April Fool’s Day and you’ve punked me at least 50 times!

So I didn’t read the synopsis so I had no idea it wasn’t going to be about Kady and Erza. I was a little disappointed, I’m not going to lie. However, when I first read Hanna and Nik’s banter, I was hooked. I thought this book was a much different look at the book world that this series has created and I really enjoyed the change in setting and characters. I usually hate when a sequel is about different characters because I am a character driven reader, but this book was too good to get too upset.

Like the first installment, the book is told through classified documents, emails, instant messages. However, this book added a little more by including drawings that Hanna drew in her personal journal. I really enjoyed this addition to the second installment because we got to see more into Hanna’s mind which is hard to do through the way the authors’ writing style. They were a light and entertaining inclusion to a roller coaster of a ride that the writers dragged me on.

The action in this book was very fast paced and went in so many directions that my head spun around like the girl in the Exorcist. I might have got pea soup on some of the pages, but I held it in. There were so many things going on at the same time that I had a little bit of hard time keeping track of what was going on. However, the events all came together in a little bow and it would make sense in the end. I usually find the action a little boring, but I found myself bringing the book very close to my face and turning the pages fast enough that I actually got a paper cut. I just needed to know what happened next because my anxiety was through the roof!

There were also so many twists and turns in this book! I thought one thing happened and then the next thing I know I was wrong and something completely different occurred. It was the most confusing and frustrating read ever and I loved every minute of it! I felt like these authors would rip my heart out and then push it back in with every chapter. It was cruel, but in the best kind of way!

There were also a LOT of characters in this book and many of them had two names, but the writers included a group of pictures with their names and code names that made it easier for me to go back and remember who was who. First of all I LOVED HANNA so much! She was a badass that didn’t take anyone’s crap! Nik was definitely a heartthrob that I needed in my life. He was a bad boy with a heart of gold, who could resist that?! Everytime he called Hanna, “highness,” butterflies would flutter in my stomach. I also really enjoyed Ella’s character because she added a hilarity that could not be matched. She also was a badass nerd that we all need hacking for us.

Overall, I really really really enjoyed this sequel and can’t wait to read the conclusion of this series.
