In a Holidaze Review

Summary

When she gets in a bad car accident she begs the universe to show her what will make her happy which leads her on a journey that is not at all what she expected.
My Thoughts
This book was just so adorable and a great read for the holiday season. It was a light and fun read that anyone who enjoys romance or the holidays would enjoy. Even when it got somewhat dark, I didn’t feel depressed or sad about it because it was just so darn cute!
The setting of this book would make anyone who loves snow or the Christmas season swoon with envy. It made my holiday so much better because I just pictured myself in Utah with this fictional cast doing all the crazy traditions they embarked on. I loved all the traditions, but oh my gosh they were so many and they sounded so exhausting! Why couldn’t they just sit around and enjoy the snow like everyone else. It almost made me feel like I have been slacking all these years! I am totally stealing the Christmas scavenger hunt idea though because that sounds so much fun!
The characters in this book also were extremely interesting and the dynamics of all of the relationships were very out there in the best way. The fact that Mae’s parents still celebrate the holidays together even though they are divorced? I mean who does that, I guess only in a book is that possible. Benny was a really amazing character and I want him to be my surrogate dad, but also wouldn’t mind getting high with him as well. I loved Mae and his relationship; however, I found it a little bit weird that she would come to him for so many things. Just a little weird, but not a big deal.
I kept getting the other side characters confused with one another and I wish I had more information about them and their relationships. I felt so bad that I had to keep looking back at what I had already to keep who was who straight. I also thought the character of Theo was not very well explained and I really wish that he would have been more present in the novel, especially his dynamic with Mae. I just didn’t understand what they were exactly and why he would get so mad at Mae for things if they had such a solid relationship.
Andrew and Mae’s romance was just so adorable and loveable that I can’t find any fault in it. It was a classic friends to lovers trope in the best way and I actually enjoyed it even though it’s not really my thing. I didn’t expect Andrew to be so sexy when we first met him and I honestly was more interested in Theo at first. However, he grew on me and I grew to understand why he was a better choice for Mae.
The time traveling idea in the novel was very interesting, but it wasn’t well executed in my opinion. I didn’t understand the dynamincs of it and as a science fiction nerd, I wanted it to be more explained, but that’s just me.
Overall, this read is a very adorable holiday romance with a very cute couple that any reader would love and a setting for the holiday that anyone would be envious of.
