Kingdom of the Wicked Review

Summary

In Sicily, there lived two sisters. One day, one of them is murdered so the other asks Hell for help in finding out who killed her.

My Thoughts:

So my heart is broken and I don’t know what I am going to do until the next book. I mean this book came out like two weeks ago and I have no idea when the next book is going to come out so I’m dying inside.

It was just so good. I stopped reading for moments in between to just absorb how amazing this book was. I am still in shock honestly. I just love every single thing about it and I haven’t felt that way about a book in a long time. I may be the only one that feels this way, but the book just hit me in a way that made me fall in love with reading again. It met everything I expected from the summary and so much more.

I loved the way the author made witches in this book. They were much more earthy than I expected and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the fact that their family owned a restaurant was a great addition to the adding more senses to the details. It also explained how the family was so good at using spices in their witchcraft because they were used to using it in their food. The legends of their family and the roles of witches was also very original and extremely interesting! I can’t wait to learn more about the difference between light witches and dark witches throughout the series. Their rituals were so cool and the author used just the right amount of details so that I could picture everything without getting bored.

The demons in this book were also extremely fascinating and completely swoonworthy!! I’ve always been a fan of when authors use the seven sins in a way to interpret different demons, but this author took it to a different level and I was so here for it! I was also interested in all the legends and the prophecies that they had combined with them and the witches. I wanted to learn more about the shadow witches and which demon helped create them!

I also enjoyed the fact that all the different demons had an agenda and you never knew what was going to happen next because of it. It could be a little frustrating at times because I would predict something and the next scene would completely kill my train of thought. It was annoying, but it kept the book moving and me constantly entertained.

I was also so so SO in love with all the characters. Vittoria was a very interesting character and you couldn’t really predict what she was going to do and I wanted to learn more about her. I loved Emilia. She was definitely a good girl, but when she was forced to, she would act like a badass and save the day! I also want to eat all her food and I loved how much she thought about it. We could certainly relate a lot on that level. And just Wrath. OMG HE IS SO YUMMY! I loved the banter between him and Emilia and I can’t wait for more in the next installment.

The ending just about wrecked me! It was of course a cliffhanger, I love and hate those, and it left me with so many unanswered questions. It also ended in a way that made you feel betrayed the next book wasn’t out instantly so that you could find out what happens next. I understand that it takes time to finish a book and we still have COVID, but please hurry up Ms. Maniscalco because I need the next installment so bad!!!!!
