Layla Review

Summary

Leeds meets Layla and he thinks everything is perfect until the day Layla almost dies. When she recovers Leeds starts to not recognize her as the girl he fell in love with. So he decides to take her to the place where they fell in love, but weird things start occurring in the house which drives a wedge that they might never be able to recover from.

My Thoughts

Well that was an experience that I never expected. HOLY SHIT THAT WAS INSANE. I honestly thought for a minute there that I was going to DNF a Colleen Hoover book which has never ever happened. This book is completely different from anything she has ever written and it was so so so good.

First of all, the book is told completely in the male perspective and Ms. Hoover has never done this before. That definitely threw me for a loop and at first I was kinda thrown by that fact. Leeds is the male lead in this book and he, to me, was EXTREMELY unlikeable. I honestly told my friend that I wanted his head delivered in a box or for Layla to stab him. I mean towards the end I understood why he acted the way he did, but still he sucked for a hot minute. He was the reason I wanted to DNF the book because the book was told in his perspective and I wanted him to shut up most of the time.

The book also has a timeline that goes back and forth between the present and the past. This creates a thrilling and mysterious plot where I was speed reading through the whole book. I just had to know what was happening and how the characters got to their present situation. Their present situation was insane and I was constantly saying cuss words because I could NOT understand how they got there and it made me soooooo angry.

This book also has a paranormal element that is not new to this author, but she took it in a different direction than her last one did. Like many of her books, this love story was heart wrenching and felt like someone ripped out my heart and stomped on it so it broke into many pieces. However, this is nothing new for a Colleen Hoover book, but the paranormal element with the romance was definitely unique and I couldn’t believe what was happening. I did not know how it was going to turn out, IT WAS JUST INSANE!

The twist in this book was AMAZING! It was worth every single heartbreak and cuss word that screamed as I was reading. I honestly thought that Colleen failed me for a minute, but this twist made up for everything. I was shocked she would do that to me, but now I understand and I am here for it!

Overall, this book was perfection! If you ever want to give up on it, keep reading, I promise it is worth it!
