Book Review

Lilac

Braxton Fawn has been chosen to be the new guitarist for the famous band, Bound. However, her bandmates are constantly fighting and she might be attracted to more than one of them. This could be the best move or the worst mistake of Braxton’s life and only time will tell which…

My Thoughts

Soooooo….. This book. Hmmm where should I start with this hot mess. This was another booktok recommendation, not just from one person, BUT SO MANY PEOPLE… It has also been on my kindle unlimited wishlist for some time. (Yes, I have a wishlist to keep track of all the books that I want to borrow.) Therefore, after much deliberation, I decided to read it after some spicy Christmas reads….. It’s honestly so hard for me to tell if I liked it or not because some parts I VERY much enjoyed and other parts were ….. UNNECESSARY…

This book was EXTREMELY LONG… this book almost felt like a bullet point outline of what it was supposed to be without all the details or how it could eventually get there.

These characters had so much going on from past traumas, current traumas, and just present information. The members of Bound were best friends for a long time, but we had no background on how they met, how they started the band or even where they really came from…. We got bits and pieces just thrown into the mix as the book was told. This can be okay sometimes, BUT these tidbits would come back and become major plot conflicts out of nowhere. The plot just had no flow and almost felt jerky. It drove me so insane that I couldn’t really enjoy the smutty scenes or commit myself to the characters.

I was super disappointed.

We got a lot of background on Rich (oh his name is Jericho btw, the author kept switching between the names and DROVE ME SO CRAZY! I honestly thought they were two different people at certain times..) and Lorcan, but ummmmm what about Houston? Like where was his back story? It was MIA and I was NOT happy about it at all. He was my favorite and he got the poop end of the stick. Also… Braxton’s tragic backstory was….. Just dumb and out of nowhere…. Like really?

The twist at the end also made me VERY UPSET…. Like all that turmoil and torture… for that? Omg this book made me so concerned for BookTok’s sanity. Just no.

There were some positives to this read and some laughs and some good smut…. But it wasn’t my cup of tea and I am honestly glad it is over. Sorry not sorry.
