Lore

Summary

Centuries ago, nine Greek gods rebelled against their father and were punished with the Agon. For a week, these naughty gods turn mortal and are hunted for their divine power and immortality by their descendants. Lore left that world behind after the death of her family, but is pushed back into that life when the world is threatened with the end.

My Thoughts

I have been looking for a great Greek mythology for a while and this was a very good one that pushed all the right buttons. I really liked to read a lot, but it wasn’t really what I expected and I was a little disappointed with some things. However, I really enjoyed this read from start to finish and am very glad I read it.

The setting was in my favorite city in the world so how could I not love it! The description of the many places they went to just felt like my travels in New York and gave me the bug to go there again. This book gave me a very nice taste until the pandemic is over and I can go back. I really enjoyed the overall concept of the book from the wonderful and well researched additions of Greek mythology to the original idea of the Agon and the many different lines of ancestors.

The family dynamics between the many lines of descendants was so cool to me and I really wish I belonged to one of them. However, I can’t decide between the Kadmides, due to the fact they remind me of Slytherin house from HP (my house), or the Perseides because I’m obsessed with gorgons.

So the only thing I kind of had an issue with was the characters. I mean I really liked some of them, but I could have done without some others or I thought that the author didn’t spend enough time developing them into well rounded characters with more depth. I think that the fact that this book just had so much action and so many things going on continuously that the author just didn’t have enough room to put it all in. I liked the portrayal of the gods and goddess a LOT! I thought this author brought up a very interesting and intriguing point about the goddess, Athena that always really bugged me and I enjoyed seeing that play out.

There was a little bit of romance included in this book as well, but I thought that it wasn’t well executed and it honestly came out of nowhere for me. I thought it had the potential of being something good, but it was kind of meh compared to everything else in this very action packed story.

Overall, it gave me a little Greek mythology that I have been missing in my life and it was a very enjoyable read.
