My Top 5 Reads of January

I can’t believe the month of January is already over! This has been an extremely accomplished reading month for me! I have read 32 books this month. They were all amazing, but here is a list of my five favorite reads!

Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody

OMG THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!!!!!! I’m obsessed and so angry that I haven’t read this book before now! Wow was this book good. I binged this entire read within a few hours because I just needed to know what was going to happen next. I inhaled every page like it was my last and I regret absolutely nothing.

The book world was just so awesome. The gangs and the plot twists reminded me of a magical Godfather without that pesky horse in the bed. There was murder, intrigue, magic, dancing, and romance perfect for any fantasy reader. The characters were also extremely intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

The ending tore apart my insides and I actually broke one of my rules for 2021 in order to read the next one. I can’t wait!

Alice by Christina Henry

SOOOO THIS WAS AWESOME. I mean if you are searching for a sweet and cute retelling of the classic Alice in Wonderland, you will not find it in this book. This retelling of my favorite classic is dark, murderous, sinister, and very very very creepy.

This author took all my favorite characters and twisted them into perverted and horrible mob bosses of a dark and dismal city. The main character Alice is no sweet little girl, she is a murderous and badass female that protects who she loves and those in need. Her partner in crime is the Hatcher, this author’s version of the Hatter that has an axe instead of a hat and very homicidal tendencies. Doesn’t this book sound amazing?!?!

The psychotic and horrific journey was amazing and I can’t wait to read the next one to see even more horrors and suspense. If you need a read of fantastic and dark retelling, make sure to pick up this book!

The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen

Wow this book was AMAZING! It is so underrated so I’m telling you now, YOU NEED TO READ IT! I managed to finish this read in no time and I stayed up wayyyyy past my bedtime! Also, I bought the sequel immediately after I finished the book, so you know how good it was.

This book world was extremely well crafted, easily understood, and very unique. I also know many different types of birds after reading and I may have had to look up some on Google. (All the castes of the world are named after birds.) The characters were extremely interesting and fun to read and the plot WAS CRAZY GOOD! I also ship Tavin and Fie so HARD!

The only things I found to be a little lackluster was the villain was sort of boring and the ending did not have the same pow as the rest of the plot. However, I NEED TO KNOW what happens so in the end it didn’t really matter. So overall, everyone needs to read this book so I have people to discuss it with!!

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco

UGH THIS BOOK WAS SO COOL! This series just gets more amazing as it goes on and I couldn’t be happier! One of my favorite classic horror novels is Dracula and the author gave it such a fun and exciting twist. I was just in love!

Audrey Rose is a unique and genius Nancy Drew style heroine with a much more sarcastic, handsome, and entertaining sidekick. Thomas is full of witty banter that would make any girl swoon and I loved when him and Audrey had debates with one another.

However, if there isn’t some epic romance in this series soon, I will scream and throw the gorgeous books at someone. This slow burn stuff is killing me SMALLS!!!

The setting and the plot were well done and it was so good that I hugged the book when I was finished. I cannot WAIT to read more books from this series because I just know it will only get better!

Caraval Series by Stephanie Garber

OH THIS SERIES WAS JUST SO MAGICAL!!! From the costumes, the romance, the setting, the characters, everything was just so mystical and wonderful. If there were ever a book world I could live in, this one would be in my top five!

The two sisters made such interesting and compelling main characters that I loved so much. The first book focused on Scarlet and I just loved her so much. Her courageous nature and her loyalty were just so captivating to read. The second book was told in Tella’s perspective which scared me at first because I didn’t like her that much in the first book, but by the end I completely changed my mind and loved her two! The third book was a gorgeous ending to a wonderful series and I am so depressed that it is over!

The game of Caraval is a intense and suspense roller coaster and made me question everything! I wish it was a real game because it just sounds amazing. The author did just a wonderful job leaving her readers completely in suspense the entire time and only revealed her secrets at the very end, like any true magician.

If you love passionate romance, suspenseful games, and magical world, make sure to pick up this book!
