My Top Ten Reads of 2020
Let’s face it, 2020 has been a TERRIBLE year, but books always make everything better. The only highlight of this year is that the quarantine allowed me to read more and gave me more time to start a book blog and a bookstagram. It has been an amazing journey, but like everyone else I’m hoping that 2021 goes a little bit better. This is a list of books that helped me get through this crazy year, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
Educated by Tara Westover

Wow if you have not read this book, then you need to use the gift cards you got for Christmas to buy this book immediately. It was an amazing book that explores a very different world of America that I have never really thought about. Tara lived in an environment that was rough and I honestly don’t know how she pulled herself out of it. She is my hero! Tara is a bright beckon of how important education is to children and how it can open so many doors and introduce them to so many things. It also presents an idea of how sometimes your family can be something that brings you down instead of lifts you up. This book was amazing and everyone should read it.
Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

HOLY POOP THIS BOOK! So I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I found this book, but somehow it was SO MUCH MORE THAN I THOUGHT! This summary sounded amazing and the cover was so gorgeously creepy and it was just a perfect pick for me. I ended up reading the book in four hours and I was so depressed that I finished it so quickly. The book world was such an interesting perspective on witches and also gave a new twist to one of my favorite tropes, the seven deadly sins. I was extremely intrigued with ALL of the characters and couldn’t wait to see what they would bring to the plot. The ending was A COMPLETE SURPRISE and unfortunately a cliffhanger and the next installment doesn’t come out until next year. So rude, but it was so good! I also discovered a new author through this read and have proceeded to buy all her books.
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

Wow this book was AMAZING! I was introduced by the amazingness of Colleen Hoover this year by my amazing book club and I have become obsessed! However, this book will continue to be my favorite of hers because HOT DAMN! The book was a lot and I honestly had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading it. BUT HOT DAMN! Lily was such an amazingly written character and her storyline took to me to a very real, raw, and difficult place to be. It was such a hard book to read, but I was just so intrigued about where it was going that I just kept reading and reading. The ending of this book BROKE MY SOUL! UGHHHHH! I was a sobbing mess, but I swear it was worth it. So read this book right now!
I Stop Somewhere by T.E. Carter

If you haven’t read this book yet, you need to read it IMMEDIATELY! (I feel like I keep saying that, but I can’t help it!) This book was so haunting and just not what I expected at all. I actually read this book in the car before my book club because I needed to finish as soon as possible! The main character Ellie reminds me of every single young high schooler that wants to be seen and it just broke me to see what happened to her. I was so frustrated with the situation and how all sides handled it so it was a struggle to see any light at the end of the tunnel. I loved the message that book brought to the table and I feel that everyone needs to read this and face the horrible reality it introduces. It was like The Lovely Bones, but so much better!!!
The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff

So I started this series the minute it came out, but then life happened and I forgot all about it. However, when I started my bookstagram, this series was EVERYWHERE! I had to restart it and it was the best decision I made. Mia is a frickin badass and she is amazing. I love her! I don’t know whether I want her to be my best friend or my girlfriend. The plot to this series was AMAZING. However, Mr. Kristoff is a mean little goblin because he will give you everything you want one minute and the next minute will rip it away!!! This series took me on so many twists and turns and I honestly didn’t know how it was going to end at one point, but it ended on a better one than I expected. This series was a masterpiece and definitely a highlight to the quarantine!
The Daevabad Trilogy by S. A. Chakraborty

I read this amazing trilogy with an amazing group of women and was the best decision I made. It was a glamorous and gorgeous trilogy in a magical fantasy world that I never get to explore as much as I should. The mythological characters in this trilogy were so unique, but also an homage to some magical creatures of my childhood. I loved all the characters and the crazy web they wove! There were so many amazing battles and twists in this plot that it made my head do the Exorcist, but in the best way. I love Nahri and Ali so much. Their struggle to find their true purpose was so amazing to read and I loved every minute! I’m so sad that this series is over!
Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage

I don’t exactly remember how I discovered this book, but I am so glad I did. IT WAS INSANE!!! I just could not believe it and I could not think straight for days!!! This is by far one of my favorite thrillers of all time and I recommend it to everyone that asks for a book. Hanna was just so creepy and I fit my constant idea that children are just SO creepy. I felt so bad for her mother Suzette, I couldn’t even imagine the position she was in and she had no support. So terrible. I loved how much this book truly threw me. I had to take a week away from reading to truly absorb what the hell happened in that crazy book. If you are looking for a crazy thriller that will blow your mind clear off, read this book!!!
Hannaford Prep Series by J. Bree

So I started this series when the first installment, Just Drop Out, and I have been hooked ever since. I honestly did not keep up when the installments came out so when I found out the last one had been released, I decided to binge the entire series. I read them all in three days. They were just as good as I remember and then some! I honestly was so obsessed that I made one of my besties read. She didn’t have much of a choice in the matter, but it was really fun to see all her reactions through videos and pictures! I am devastated that this series is over, I don’t know what I’m going to do without my girl, Lips, and her men. The ending was good, but not enough for me!!!
The Havoc Boys Series by C.M. Stunich

OH MY GOD THIS SERIES WAS INSANE! I just can’t believe that this series is over! I just can’t believe it! Ugh it was amazing from the very beginning and the cliffhangers killed my soul until I could get to the next book. I love love love love Bernie. She is probably one of my favorite main characters and she is a complete badass with a heart of gold. I also loved the men in this book, yes I know I have a lot of favorite book boyfriends so this is nothing new, but these men blow those men out of the water. Each book introduced more and more layers about the characters, especially the men, and it was so intriguing to read about. I also loved the dialogue between the characters, there were so many hilarious comebacks and quips that made me laugh out loud. This series was so good and I really wish I could read it all again for the first time!
Crush by Tracy Wolff

OH BOY THIS BOOK! I just couldn’t believe the direction that this book went. The first book of this series was very very very boring. I honestly thought that this series was just another Twilight retelling and I was very apprehensive to continue, but the cliffhanger at the end forced me to. However, this sequel was AMAZING, just WOW! I loved the direction this book went in and I am just desperate to know more. Grace became such a badass in this book and Hudson is my true love and no one else can convince me otherwise. The ending of this book just broke my soul and I can’t wait until March when the new book comes out!
This year has been a truly crazy, interesting, and very unique year that I never expected. I have faced my job being threatened, problems with my home life, and the threat of a very dangerous and scary illness. However, this year has also introduced a lot of amazing things such as how amazing my book club is, how strong my relationship is with my husband and my family, and starting this blog. I have survived 2020 and I am ready for a better year in 2021!
