Of Fire and Water

Calla escaped Morbeth only to find herself fighting for her life once more. Incendia seemed the perfect sanctuary of escape. The stories told of the mystical island claim all inhabitants were annihilated. Those tragic tales. . . were lies.
Desperate to keep their truth hidden, the islanders take Calla and her friend’s prisoner. Despite her dire situation, something about that beautiful—yet deadly—paradise speaks to Calla’s soul, whispering the powerful secrets pulsing through her veins. As Roehl hunts for her, eager to claim his murderous vengeance, Calla searches for answers she believes only Incendia can offer.
My Thoughts
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I am so thankful to Literary Bound Tours and the author for the opportunity! I was introduced to this series by this tour and I was happy to meet this magical world and these magical characters.
This book is NOT a standalone and is the second installment to the Heir of Blood and Fire series so if you are interested in this book, you should read the first book before you sink your teeth into this one or else you WILL NOT understand what the hay is going on.
This author has a great way of introducing characters and world building so that readers can absorb all the information without going insane from all the details. The world that this author has created was just so COOL! There were so many types of magic and magical creatures that I loved to meet. The author also introduced all the dynamics of the world through the path of the main character which is a way that all fantasies should be done. I also felt like the magic just made so much sense. I mean yes, I know that magic isn’t supposed to make sense, but you get what I mean.
I also love the main character and her strong friendships. The book put a lot of importance on its female characters and their relationships and that was so refreshing to me. I also loved watching Calla grow in this book. In the first book, I honestly wasn’t that much of a fan, her storyline seemed kind of boring and I found her a tad whiny. However, I pushed through and it was worth it because Calla became a badass that let NO ONE control her life.
However, the only flaw in this book was the love interest…. He was just so blah and I think Calla deserves better. They are just so boring….. The will they won’t think is kind of annoying. I’m kind of just over it.
Overall, this installment was a great addition to the series and I can’t wait for the next book because that ending was CRAZY!
