Promises and Pomegranates

Elena

To most, Kal Anderson is a villain.

Harbinger of death, keeper of souls, frequenter of nightmares.

Doctor Death. Hades incarnate.

They say he stole me.

Usurped my fiancé and filled the cracks in my heart with empty promises.

Imprinted his crimson fingerprints on my psyche and tried to set me free.

They’re not wrong, per se.

Except it was my choice to stay.

Kal

To most, Elena Ricci is an innocent.

Goddess of springtime, lover of poetry, angel of my nightmares.

Little one. Persephone personified.

They say I ruined her.

Shattered her virtue and devoured her soul like a succulent pomegranate.

Embedded my evil as deep as I could possibly get and tried to set her free.

They’re not wrong, per se.

Except it was she who ruined me.

My Thoughts

So real talk… Dark romances have NOT been hitting right lately…. I’ve read a couple this month and last month and I wasn’t completely sold on them or I just DNF them all together…

HOWEVER… This one was sooooo damn good and there were so many reasons why.

You might think to yourself… UGH not another Hades and Persephone retelling…. This idea has been used so many times and a lot of those times, it has been poorly executed… (Yes… I’m looking at you, Touch of Darkness, sorry not sorry.) So why should I pick up this book… I mean it has pomegranates on the cover, how more Hades and Persephone can you get?

HOWEVER……. This one is a definite read….

The story is told through the two perspectives of Kal Anderson and Elena Ricci who are the PERFECT Hades and Persephone I could ever possibly want.

Kal Anderson has serial killer amazing vibes like my favorite boyfriend Cole in the Sinners Duet and from the first line had me COMPLETELY HOOKED… I am now and forever obsessed with him and I don’t care who knows. Oh Mr. Anderson… gave me sexy Matrix vibes and I was in love…. I’m so obsessed with him and he had so many amazingly sexy lines and his stalker vibes were so on point.

Elena Ricci was also such a great FMC to follow and although she starts out meek and mild like the original Persephone… Elena grows a pair and is a badass queen as the story goes on. Omg just LOVED her and Kal. They were such a fun couple to read about.

Another reason to read was that the story was kind of out there… they took the craziness of Demeter to a whole new level in this book. I won’t say more because of spoilers, but it was so good, guys!

Overall, this read was SO DAMN GOOD and it definitely satisfied the dark romance urge I was feeling…
