Book Review

Read to Me

Summary

Arloe owns a romance bookstore and is very happy reading her life away, until she meets a dark and mysterious stranger. Maybe her books can become a reality.

My Thoughts

Let me start by saying how awesome it was to get this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to The Hatter Author Services and the author for this opportunity. Although I enjoyed the concept of the book, it just wasn’t my favorite.

I love dark romance and the BDSM genre, but I didn’t really enjoy it in this book because it reminded me a little too much of 50 Shades of Grey. 50 Shades of Grey was a bad way to introduce the public about this wonderful genre and makes people believe that having a dark past is all you need to make a dashing dark man in a red room….. Can we just say boring. The male lead of this book was just boring to me, he had no humor or finesse, just a very dark complex and lack of control for his urges. I was not rooting for this relationship…. at all which is why I didn’t enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. He just played hot and cold (I know this can be sexy sometimes, but this was not sexy) so many times with Arloe that it just got annoying after awhile……

Not only was Sawyer a little bit of a disappointment…. So was the main character Arloe. I mean the concept of her was soooooo great! I mean she owned a bookstore that exclusively sold dark romance novels and she was an avid reader herself. You would think I would enjoy that about her, but when it came down to it, she was kind of irritating and rubbed me the wrong way. Her sassiness that she tried to play off just fell flat. I could see that she really tried, but it didn’t seem genuine. I also kind of felt uncomfortable when they had their sex scenes in her perspective because it almost seemed like she was forcing herself to enjoy Sawyer’s sexy antics. I mean BDSM can be fun, but she didn’t seem like she was anything resembling fun. I almost felt bad fo her.

That aside…. Sawyer’s family is what kept me intrigued and entertained with this read…. I mean Jude seems like a guy I would love to get to know and Baby… oh baby he sounds fun. I really want to read their stories because I am thinking that I will like them just a little more than Sawyer’s…

Overall, I am grateful that I got to read this read and at the end of the day, it did keep me entertained til the very end. I am also looking forward to more reads from these authors because Jude’s story just has to be good.
