My Thoughts
I am so grateful to Book of Matches Media and the author for this gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. I haven’t read a high fantasy book in a good long while and this was a great book to get me back into that world and away from the dark romance rabbit hole….
Now this read is HIGH fantasy in all the ways it can be. It has dialogue with elements of old English. There are so many characters and so many families that looking back and forth from the list of families in the beginning was very necessary. Since it had been a minute since I’d chosen a high fantasy read, it took me a couple chapters to be absorbed into this magical and medieval world. The writing was detailed and flowed smoothly, don’t get me wrong, it is just that I’ve been reading smut for the last month and it took a little adjustment for me to get into it.
I straight up took notes guys.
I have a notebook full of notes so I could keep all the characters straight and why they were important. Again, it has been a LONGGGG time since I’ve read a high fantasy book so I needed my notebook like a devout Christian in church needs their bible. The book is also long. I mean 655 pages doesn’t seem like a lot, at least for me, but there is so much information and so much detail that is being introduced that it seems longer than it really was.
However, if there isn’t a character explaining something or the author explaining the dynamics of the book world, the characters are doing something completely and amazingly badass! There is SO MUCH ACTION IN THIS BOOK! I mean there is murder, mayhem, rebellion, forbidden love, passion, sass, magic, destruction, and oh so much more. This author has truly sucked me into this dangerous and crazy world and I just couldn’t get enough. There are also SO many characters and storylines going on in this book that there is something for everyone. Esmeralda and Ravenna captured my attention the most and I CANNOT WAIT to see where their storylines go.
Step away Game of Thrones….. Kingdom of the White Sea is coming to take your crown when it comes to high fantasy!
