My Thoughts

So this book was extremely interesting and nothing like I thought. Based on the reviews I have read about the book, I thought it was going to have a X-Men mentality with the fight between Magento and Dr. X, but it was nothing like that and I was so glad!

Let me just say that the title of this book is beyond perfect for the plot. The characters were honestly so VICIOUS! I just was so in shock on how dark and dismal this book was. It was way more a DC comic than a Marvel one is all I’m saying. The diction that the author chose was also a lot more advanced than I was expecting so I had to mentally prepare myself for that. I almost felt that I was reading a book for college and it was perfect because it was told from the point of view of people that didn’t have souls, literally.

The idea of superheroes in this book was a much different perspective that has ever been done before and I was here for it. Usually, a superhero story starts with an average character that has a tragic event happen to him and causes him to take on the role of the world’s savior. However, this story was told in a way that each chapter went back and forth in the timeline to slowly reveal the beginning and the end of the book. The book was told in multiple perspectives and I really enjoyed seeing all sides of the story throughout the book.

I found all the characters to be really unique, but I might not actually like anyone except for Sidney. I think that was what the author intended and I honestly found that extremely refreshing and I actually enjoyed it. I felt that there was no hero in this superhero-like novel and it was just to examine what makes a hero and what makes a villain and I’m honestly still confused on what is what.

This book really made me think and look at the dynamics of what a hero and villain is and it is all based on perspective. Eli is so determined that what he is doing is right and it almost makes you do a double take and think maybe he is when you read his chapters. I honestly was in shock the whole time and I don’t know what to think or who to believe. It was such an out there read that I am honestly still thinking about it.

Overall, it was like no other book I read before and I need to read the next one for more information about this unique and curious world full of unlikable characters.
