My Top 5 Reads of October
I only read 11 books this month, but I’m okay with it. I mean I could have read more books, but it was my favorite month of the year so I had a lot of fun activities to do as well as read. I enjoyed all of the books I read in October, but these five were definitely books that I will always remember! Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman Oh this book was wonderful! I really enjoyed it so much more than I thought I was going to. The book was written through a collection of emails, instant messages, and classified documents so it was a little bit…
Woven in Moonlight
Summary: Ximena’s parents were killed when she was very young by the Llacsan armies. She demands vengeance for her family’s murder so she agrees to become the decoy for the Condesa, the leader of the Illustrians. When the leader of the Llacsan demands the Condesa as his bride, Ximena goes in her stead hoping that this will lead to the end of the war. However, Ximena is forced to confront that maybe everything she knows is a lie and in order to achieve peace, she must betray the ones she loves most. My Thoughts: I had never heard of this book, but when I saw one of my bookstagram friends…
Bookish Merch
One of the most amazing things that I have found through bookstagram is the bookish merch! OMG there is so much great stuff out there that I never even knew about and now I have to have it all. Not only am I spending all my money on all the books on bookstagram, but now some of my money is going to bookish merchandise. My husband is not happy, but who cares! Here are some of the amazing artists and shops I’ve bought some of my bookish merch from! PixiePagesBoutique on Etsy Not only is this girl one of my besties, she also has the most amazing stickers and clothes…
Blood and Honey Review
Summary: In the anticipated sequel to Serpent and Dove, Lou, Reid, and their friends need allies to battle against the witches and hunters chasing them. However, those allies come at a cost and they might not be willing to pay it. My Thoughts: So if I can tell you how I feel about this read using one word, I would say, DEVASTATED!!! This book ripped out my soul and spit it back out at me and I am not okay. I honestly didn’t know what to expect after the end of the last book, but I was not expecting this. The book world is still amazing, but I’m still very…
Why I Reread
What is a rereader? A rereader is someone that rereads a book instead of reading the million books they have that they haven’t read. If this was an AA meeting, I would say, “My name is Becca and I am a rereader.” Whenever I reread a book, I always feel guilty because I look around my house and see the stacks and stacks of books I haven’t read yet. Even though I feel all the guilt, I will still reread books and these are the reasons why. Pure Comfort One of the major reasons I reread books is because of the comfort that the action brings me. Rereading a book…
City of Brass Review
Summary: Nahri has sticky fingers and runs magic cons in order to survive in 18th century Egypt. When one of her cons goes wrong, she discovers that magic is real and that she is a part of a world that she never imagined. My Thoughts: I have had this book forever and I truly regret that I haven’t picked it up sooner. I’ve been going through fantasy series withdrawal since Throne of Glass and this series has definitely fit that hole in my heart! This book is the first of the series so it was a lot of book world building and learning the different characters. Throughout the first 100…
Trick or Treat Reads
Halloween is soon upon us and I cannot be more excited! Halloween is my favorite holiday for many reasons, but the main reason I love Halloween is the fact that I get to be whoever I want to be which is a lot like reading a book. While I was thinking of blog posts, I really want to do something with the phrase, “trick or treat,” and I thought about how this could relate to books. Some books that I thought were going to be a trick turned into being a treat to read. Other books can start out as a treat, but turn into a trick. These are some…
Dark Places Review
Summary: Libby Day was a child when her mother and her two sisters were murdered. Her brother was the killer or was he? My Thoughts: Wow just wow. This book sounded amazing from the summary, but it was much more than I expected. I am a huge Gillian Flynn fan. I first read Gone Girl, but I have loved this one and Sharp Objects much more! Her characters are flawed, unreliable, and very real and her stories are very dark and creepy and this book was no different. Libby Day is not what I expected at all. Yes, she is a survivor, but she has been basically living off the…
Red, Yellow, Green Reads
Do you remember that game, Red Light, Green Light? I used to love that game so much! I was talking about it with my students and when one of my bookstagram friends tagged me to do a Red, Yellow, and Green challenge, I thought about how these lights relate to my reading habits. Which types of things in books give me a green, yellow, or red light? My Green Light Items in Books When I am looking through any online seller of books, at a bookstore, or through bookstagram, there are some things that draw me in instantly and I call these green lights. The green light meaning go or…
The Whisper Man Review
Summary: The Kennedys have suffered a loss so they decide to move to a new house for a fresh start. When they arrive at the home, neighbors say the house is referred to as the, “scary house,” and Jake starts to hear someone whispering to him. My Thoughts: This book was a perfect book to start off my thriller reading in October. It combined my two favorite things, serial killers and creepy houses. I found all of the characters extremely fascinating and I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot. The house that the father and son move into is very interesting, but I wish we had gotten a…
