My Top Ten Reads of 2020

Let’s face it, 2020 has been a TERRIBLE year, but books always make everything better. The only highlight of this year is that the quarantine allowed me to read more and gave me more time to start a book blog and a bookstagram. It has been an amazing journey, but like everyone else I’m hoping that 2021 goes a little bit better. This is a list of books that helped me get through this crazy year, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Educated by Tara Westover  Wow if you have not read this book, then you need to use the gift cards you got for Christmas…

    Gulp Review

Summary Have you ever wondered about how our body actually digests our food? Do you actually need an enigma? Why do we salivate when we see food? All of these questions are answered and more during the crazy journey that Ms. Roach takes us on.  My Thoughts  Let me just start this review by saying that I LOVE MARY ROACH. I have read two of her books and the rest of them are on my TBR list. When Audible was having a member sale a few months ago, I snagged this audiobook immediately! That was a smart move because once again, Mary Roach took me on a scientific journey that…

    These Violent Delights Review

Summary In the year 1926, two rival gangs ran the streets of Shanghai. One gang’s heir is a former flapper that was raised in the Americas and the other gang is run by a son who doesn’t want anything to do with this awful power. When a devastating madness overtakes their city, they grudgingly decide to work together in order to save their people.  My Thoughts  From the very minute I read the synopsis of this book, I was so in! I mean how could gangsters in 1920s Shanghai ever go wrong. The idea of this book is just so so so different from anything I’ve read lately and it…

    Windwitch Review

Summary In the second installment of the Witchlands trilogy, Merik is seeking revenge for his destroyed ship, Aeduan is hunting Iseult, Safi and the Empress are working together to escape dastardly pirates, and everything else is a mess! My Thoughts  So I’ve either heard nothing about this series or rave reviews on it. I honestly don’t know what to think! I really tried to like this book and read it all the way through, but it was so hard! I don’t know what it is, but I’m not connecting with any of these characters very deeply. It makes me so sad!  The idea of the novel is awesome, I love…

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories Review

Summary Before the adventures of Jude, Cardan was a wicked fae boy with a heart of stone. In this amazingly gorgeous collection of illustrations and short stories, we get to see Cardan before he knew Jude and a small glimpse into their future after the Folk of Air series ended.  My Thoughts  Let me start this review by saying that this book is the most gorgeous book I have ever owned! The illustrations in this book are spectacular and I loved the way that artist captured one of my favorite couples in fantasy. I also loved her illustrations for the magical creatures, they were of all different styles and it…

    Stalking Jack the Ripper Review

Summary Audrey Rose Wadsworth lives the life of luxury and privilege, but after all the tea and socializing, she is studying forensic science under the watchful eye of her uncle. When the Leather Apron starts killing prostitutes in White Chapal, Audrey is determined to find the culprit even if it might be someone she loves.  My Thoughts  So I am so angry that I’ve never read this book before because it was everything I could possibly want in a book and more! It had the coolest setting, it was based on a true crime case, the main character was a feminist scientist, and her partner was a sarcastic and yummy…

    Sequels Better than the First

As a crazy series reader, I have seen it all. A sequel that doesn’t match the amazingness of the first. An ending that broke my soul in the best way or an ending that made me question why I read the series at all. However, series are such a complicated and amazing journey that authors take readers on, so sometimes the first of a series falls short on action as opposed to the rest of the series. Here is a list of sequels that I liked more than the first book.  New Moon (Book 2 of the Twilight series) by Stephanie Meyer So I am a Team Jacob fan through…

On New Year’s of Oona’s 19th birthday, she travels through time and wakes up in her fifty-one year old body with no memory of how she got there. This leads to many years of traveling to different years of her life and Oona discovers her timeline in a way that no one ever will.  My Thoughts  I enjoyed this book a lot, but I did not know how dark it was going to be! Summary Maelyn Jones woke up on December 26th and made a huge mistake the night before. Then, she receives awful news that will make her life change forever! When she gets in a bad car accident she begs the universe to show her what will make her happy which leads her on a journey that is not at all what she expected. Even when it got somewhat dark, I didn’t feel depressed or sad about it because…
