Book Review

A Shadow in the Ember

Seraphena Mierel has a mission and her life has never been her own. She is destined by the fates to be the consort to the Primal of Death and to save her people. But the fates have other plans and the future she has always been destined to have, may be a lie….

My Thoughts

OOHHHHHH THIS BOOK…… I DON’T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS… IT WAS SOOOO GOOD AND IT WAS NOTHING LIKE FROM BLOOD AND ASH…

Yes… I can see some similarities with characters, setting, and themes, but I found so much differences between this prequel and From Blood and Ash and IDC what anyone says. I feel like the roles of Casteel and Poppy have been reversed in this prequel and I ain’t mad about it. Soooo you may not believe me and all, but let me explain my meaning…

Sera is the maiden like Poppy, BUTTTTT she has a better understanding of the life around her and she is the betrayer so she represents Casteel much more than Poppy. Also Ash is much like Poppy in where he is betrayed. You may not agree with me, but I don’t care because that is MY opinion and I’m sticking to it!

Okay so let’s discuss the actual content of the book.

I AM just so in LOVE with everything single thing that this book had to offer. Although I didn’t do what I was supposed to do and read the From Blood and Ash series before I started this, I did manage to make a lot of connections with the world buildling and all the dynamics of the creatures and the magic systems. However, the author added more and it was amazing…. I mean the draken alone were SO DAMN COOL…. UGH an amazing fantasy always contains a dragon like creature to have me drool over.

The setting also was just EVERYTHING… there were tidbits from the original series where I got the light bulb and I would scream… “I KNOW WHAT THAT IS!” So that was very cool.

Soooo the characters….. Soooooo I may or may not like Sera a little more than Poppy…. I mean Poppy is my love and she is great and all, but Sera is just soooo heartbreakingly sad that I can’t help but have a soft spot for her. She is also such a freaking badass and that emotionless mask that she can just put on and off makes me feel all the emotions for her plight.

Ash is also a freaking GOD and I need more please….. Their steam and sexual tension is freaking everything and I am just obsessed with their steam and their relationship journey. I can’t wait for more from these amazing characters!

The plot WAS INSANE! I mean WTF so many twists and turns and mic drops take place and that ending just about KILLED me… I need the next book as soon as possible!

Overall, an amazing read and I was so happy to be back in the world of From Blood and Ash!
