How to Survive Your Murder

Alice Lawrence is the sole witness in her sister’s murder trial.

And in the year since Claire’s death, Alice’s life has completely fallen apart. Her parents have gotten divorced, she’s moved into an apartment that smells like bologna, and she is being forced to face her sister’s killer and a courtroom full of people who doubt what she saw in the corn maze a year prior.

Claire was an all-American girl, beautiful and bubbly, and a theater star. Alice was a nerd who dreamed of becoming a forensic pathologist and would rather stay at home to watch her favorite horror movies than party. Despite their differences, they were bonded by sisterhood and were each other’s best friends.

Until Claire was taken away from her.

On the first day of the murder trial, as Alice prepares to give her testimony, she is knocked out by a Sidney Prescott look-alike in the courthouse bathroom. When she wakes up, it is Halloween morning a year earlier, the same day Claire was murdered. Alice has until midnight to save her sister and find the real killer before he claims another victim.

My Thoughts

THIS BOOK LADIES AND GENTLEMEN…

THIS BOOK WAS INSANEEEEEEEE. I mean bravo to the author because I did NOT see that coming. I read the synopsis of the book and expected something much different, but this author deserves a standing ovulation for totally getting me good!

Although there were definite hiccups along the way, this book was so unique and a perfect thriller and mystery that rivals my favorite book, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. It was amazingggggggggg.

The story and the idea of this book was OUT OF THIS WORLD, but the main character is the reason I give this book a 4.5 instead of 5 stars. She was sooooooo annoyingggg sometimes that I just wanted to shake her. As a wannabe final girl myself, she would do many things that a final girl wouldn’t do and she knew it and DID IT ANYWAY.

OMG it was so frustrating. Also, she REFUSED to see what was right in front of her…. It drove me insane and I wanted to throw things.

The concept of the book was also interesting and had a lot more layers than I was expecting. The idea of “final girl,” and her role in making the main character see what really happened that night was crazy. However, I wish there had been just a little more explanation especially when the author embedded a little twist into her true motives with the main character.

ALSO WHO THE KILLER WAS…. CHEF’S KISS!!!

This book was such a wonderful and fun thriller for Halloween. I loved it!

In addition… those chapter titles were hilarious. OMG I want there to be a sequel!
