My Thoughts
I have had this audiobook on my audible shelf for so long! I got it with credits purely based on the spooky cover so I was expecting a lot more spook and a lot less drama. I mean I saw the cover and honestly thought it was bloody and violent. However, that is NOT what I got, but in the end I enjoyed this read and it warmed my soul in ways I never knew a thriller could. This book was definitely more mystery than thriller, but the story was such a unique and cool one that I began to not care and follow along.
The book is told through two perspectives, Nick and Ren, and they are from two very unique worlds that soon come together. Nick is struggling with depression and a husband that she thinks is cheating and Ren is a young girl struggling to keep her and her sister alive with little food for the coming winter. As the story goes, the two main characters meet and both their lives change forever in a way that I could have NEVER predicted.
This story is full of so many amazing jaw dropping moments that I could never imagine coming.
I swear that this plot threw me around like a rag doll and wouldn’t let me go until I had finished the entire book. This audiobook took me a minute to become adjusted to because the voices for the different characters were vastly different. One I could tolerate and the other one was a pure adjustment. I thought I liked one character more than the other, but Ren seemed to yell a LOT over things that had really no reason for. However, once I got used to that, I could really get into the story and I really enjoyed it.
I must have gasped at all the shocking moments at least a HUNDRED times. It was a crazy whirlwind of emotions and these strong female characters really went through the ringer. They took it a LOT better than I would’ve to be sure. The hits just kept on coming for these ladies and they just kept swinging and overcoming them all! Based on the story and their struggle, I didn’t ever think the ending could have been possible, but it was and it was such a beautiful moment.
I straight up cried at the end and it moved me in such a way that I never thought could be possible for a thriller.
If you are looking for a thriller that has a little less spook and a little more suspense, pick this one up now!
